This document examines some current issues in the scholarship of the Hellenistic world, and suggests some alternative approaches to what has, too often, been a somewhat neglected era. The results of the Pylos Regional Archaeological Project, an intensive archaeological survey in Messenia (southwestern Greece), are employed to offer one local case study of regional developments in Hellenistic times. There are also links to other Internet resources for the study of both Messenia and the Hellenistic period.

This site is a project of the Pylos Regional Archaeological Project. Its development was supported in part by a grant from the Foundation of the Hellenic World to Jack L. Davis of the University of Cincinnati as principal investigator.
